Share the fun stuff you did with your favorite mistress.

Last weekend, I finally got around to something that was nagging me for a while. When I went to make right hand turns, I couldn't put my weight on the outside peg and lean as much as I wanted to. Turns out the peg knurls were all gone from over 8 years of riding. :scared

I moved around the worn out pegs of my Gilles rearset, swapped left for right to get the knurls to bite into my boots. Forgot what a pita they are to get access to.

Also couple bolts were seized. Bought some extractor bits but that didn't work.

I heated the frame and that wouldn't bulge. :flame:
I took a mini grinder disk to my dremel and made a big phillips head and I still couldn't torque it out. So I got my biggest screwdriver and hammer. Finally, got the top bolt to go. :chair:

The 2nd one still wouldn't bulge. Went back to the dremel and ground off most of the bolt top. Then it finally came out. A simple 10 minute job took 2 hours of cursing. :crash

Replaced all 4 bolts with stainless bolts this time. In the end, took a short ride up in the nearby hills. And all is well. :riding:

Installed Graves block off plates, 2wheeldyno flashed ECU, test fit Gilles clip ons, and just put deposit down on suspension upgrades (Ohlins NIX30 carts and TTX GP shock) - YEAH BUDDY!!!

When it's 20F degrees out and some flakes floating by here and there, what else can ya do?

Anyone else doing anything fun to the bike(s)??

I put the Arrow Indy Race exhaust on last week. It does sound amazing. I need to put block-offs on next and get it flashed.

My '04 has been apart twice recently.
Since I've been having warm start issues for about a year now, and it was progressively getting worse and worse, it was time to replace starter motor.
This was my most complex task on the bike so far. It was quite intimidating, but I took loads of pictures, followed manual, and it turned out well.

While I was making my way to the starter, I noticed that my bottom throttle cable was more than 50% worn. I ordered new OEM throttle cables and finished with starter replacement.

New starter fixed my warm start issues. I buttoned it all up, and everything worked fine.
However, after a couple hundred KMs of riding, I noticed that the bike was leaking coolant, and it was getting progressively worse.
I was pretty certain what was the issue. Well, when I was replacing the starter motor, in order to loosen the nut which holds cables to the starter, I had to remove this hose:

I was pretty sure I didn't tighten the clamps correctly. But to be on the safe side, I ordered new OEM hose and clamps, just in case something was damaged.
About a month later, when the hose, clamps and throttle cables arrived, I stripped everything down again, replaced throttle cables, replaced the hose and clamps in question.
Put everything back together, tested it, and the leak was fixed!
While I was at it, I finally decided to change spark plugs. I bought the bike with 34 000 Kms, and now at 53 300 (2 and a half years later) I finally changed the spark plugs. Here's how they looked:

Decided to put new NGK iridium spark plugs in. That was also a tedious job due to very limited space, but I wiggled my way through it.
The bike is finally ready for some serious riding after months of waiting for starter motor initially, and now all these other parts.

I was casually enjoying some training at COTA about a week ago...

Then my engine decided it was time to grenade itself down the front straight...

Luckily I was able to keep it upright while smoking and spilling oil off the racing line

Image

Image

The carnage...

I pulled into the paddock I took a quick look and immediately found a piece of my crankcase sitting on the engine. I knew it couldn't be good 😂

Image

I found a whole damn piston and wrist pin in my bellypan 😭

Now that I've had time to reflect, this is a factory superbike engine build, and there were a multitude of factors that could have caused this- Main one being my rods could have potentially timed out (around 2,000 track miles). I don't want to speculate too much until I drop the engine and disassemble it (mainly to harvest my factory head, factory cams, suter clutch, ti bolts, racing covers, etc.)

Needless to say... 2025 Factory Superbike Engine Build coming soon 🤣🤣🤣

Took it to Road America on Memorial Day and Tuesday to ride with the ZARS crew. Set a PB coming to T1 saw 170 indicated on the dash (not that I meant to look) and got a bit unnerved picking up the front over the rise on the front straight thinking about grabbing 5th. This past weekend we took the bikes to get custard Saturday afternoon and then to get Mexican food yesterday with my 7yo daughter as my normal backpack of course:love:
