does anyone know if yamaha will ever make a street version of the M1? that would be sweet.....:fork

Most likely not. I would think it would be too expensive to make. But hey, I could be wrong...Ducati made a street version of their GP bike. However, I still think it's unlikely that Yamaha will do anything like that in the near future.

this topic was brought up not to long ago. To have a M1 would take some talent. I cant imagine trying to get all that power to do what i want. The thing has some cool stuff. i think it has a form of traction control. I think throttle is by wire. The amount of money in that thing and proper tuning that thing takes would be totally impratical. Also the engine being the way it is, The maitence cost would be out of this world. The motor must have to be rebuilt all the time. I dont htink i would be able to afford the tires i would go through on that thing. Are you just talking replic? The M1 is made to test out future technologies the yamaha may introduce in future bikes. I think it would be cool to have throttle by wire. when i say by wire. it is like a fly by wire system on an airplane. a computer controls the throttle instead of just a mechanical device.

I had a peek behind the bodywork of the M1 at the NEC bike show. The crankcases and transmission are CNC machined from billet. Now that's GOT to be expensive !!
:dollar :dollar

While it would be great for them to bring out a production bike, personally I dont think they really 'need' to considering the overall package they*and other companies* put out with their bikes. For the majority of riders, its more than enough power, and overall features anyone would want:yesnod

Just my 0.2cents worth.
Cheers

ducati are releasign a Desmodici RR and there have been rumours of a RC211V replica that seem to be quite founded, Yamaha might release an M1 but personally i would rather buy a RC211V rep if they were both available because of that beautiful V5 whereas the M1 is a normal inline 4 not to say its not a great bike though.:thumbup

I can see them incorporating the electronic traction/throttle control on the R1 in the near future . Stop wheelspin and make it less wheelie prone to limit liability since so many riders are trashing these things after a few weeks . Afterall , if some parent gets ahold of the fact Yamaha has this technology but isn't using it on their steetbikes , then a lawyer will one day take that opportunity and win . Stunters won't like the idea but I think the widespread abuse on public streets is getting a lot of negative attention now and ultimatly it will have to cease .

I have to agree with both rydfree and antonian.

I think it would be fun to have a traction control system on a bike. Althought there is another point to consider. I don't know anyone has had the opportunity to drive a sports car from before they came out with traction control and automatic braking to keep from spining wheels and ABS. You can have a lot of fun with car that doesn't have all that crap on it. You can slide it around take it to your limits instead of the computer's limit. Sometimes to me the computer takes some of the thrill and excitement out of it. Although I do appreciate all of this new technology because it makes for a safer drive for me and loved ones.

I think it would be a cool idea if Yamaha made the traction control as a mod plugin for the bike that you can take with you to the track (like a power commander). So you can go there, take off the seat, plug it in and have the same kinda thing as Rossi. I don't know if that would even work but it sounds cool to me.

I'm sure some of the m1's technology will trickle down to the r1 and 6r at some point in the future.

Honda did great things to the 1000rr with technology they adapted from the rc211v. Rossi is with yamaha and I think they are both going to help improve each other. Yami will learn a thing or two that's for sure.

I'd LOVE to see traction control, wheelie control, on a motorcycle. Why do we need a pc3, reprogrammable ecu's...Adjustable throttle curves (ok that's from RC car controllers, but Id like it).

But the $$$$ they spent on the tech of the m1 is FAR too large a price to have them mass producing any of it, and they don't want to give away all their secrets either.

Guess we'll have t wait and see what 06 brings. I'd personally like to see them just change the paint scheme, and then come out with something outstanding in 07, with m1 based tech.

I am not a fan of wire controlled throttles. I'd rather know that I can mechanically control the throttle. The more electriconic controlled parts, the more things that can go wrong. Aircraft that use that technology undergo CONSTANT maintenance. They always have something wrong with different systems and have trouble shooters standing by for every flight and daily and turnaround inspections happen every single day. I'm telling you shit always breaks with this stuff. That's why they have published emergency procedures for when every little part breaks or stops functioning normally. We don't have people standing by to fix the problem on our bikes when we start them up, we don't have published emergency procedures for when things go wrong with critical memory items requiring flight control input that we can perform immediately with someone right by our side (or squadron representative on the radio) reading off critical memory items in the checklist that don't require flight control input.

They already have wheelie control out there that you can add on to your bike. It's mounted on your forks or in that general area and cuts throttle based on the extension of the forks. It's used in drag racing.

Well if they do that, the GP bike would be illegal, the rules say that the bike can not be a production model,I don't know how Ducati is getting around that ???? There was a team that built a GP bike with a motor based on the R1 and was not let race.

yeah i was thinking more of M1 technology incorporated into the street bikes. i do really like the way the M1 looks though. it's definitely too expensive to produce some of the parts and yes GP bikes are not supposed to mass produced (per GP rules). but yamaha has done a great job on incorporating some GP technology on the R1, like the inverted swing arm and the radially mounted brake calipers and even the carburated/fuel injection system was race inspired.

I would not mind having that slipper clutch assembly on my r1 along with the traction acontrol and the Idle control system.:thumbup

my cousin's uncle's half nephew is good friends with an engineer of a friend who designs the M1. The inside word is that Yamaha are secretly producing a street M1, which will be called the M1.5 and it is due to debut in 2006. It will have around 190hp, traction control, and retail at about 12000

trust me, this is good info

I have seen a few people say that is would be a hard ride
There is a artical in the latest issue of Sportbike mag.
A reporter for the mag that got to ride it at Luguna
Seca and he said it was a blast and that it was a very composed
motorcycle that has some crazy:butt power!!!!
Just in my opinon I know that the kind of power it throws out
is evil but with time and practice you would get it!

traction control and throttle by wire on a bike? no thanks i like to RIDE my bike, not be taken for one.

Why have that much potential in a bike when most have yet to master the R1 as is?????? Just to say you have it??? It would be nice if yamaha did a Replica paint scheme of the M1 on the R1 like honda's paint scheme of the 211V:yesnod You know.... some of that limited edition stuff they love to do......
