You're most welcome!

Does the 2009 manual cover the 2010 and 2011 years also? Or is there another manual floating around for those years? I don't think there was any major changes was there?

Please note, in the link below, I have consolidated the 2004/2005 and 2006 manuals and PDF files into just the "2006" R1 manual .zip file. The main service manual is for the 2006 model year, but it basically applies to the 2004/2005 years.

If anyone has an actual 2004/2005 manual, please PM me and I will add it to the server.

The 2004/2005 manual can be identified by the motor compression ratio being 12.3 vs 12.4 for the 2006, and also the seat height being 32.8 vs. 32.9 (for the 2006) - in the general specifications section of the manual. Also the 2006 gas tank is listed at 4.75 gallons, while the 2004/2005 should show 4.85 gallons.

Are you sure about those figures too, not questioning just checking. I have the hard copy and download which I believe are both 04 copies and they both list 12.4 compression and seat height 32.9" but also list overall length at 2065mm (81.3") and wheelbase at 1395mm (54.9") whereas the 06 is listed at overall 2085mm (82.1") and wheelbase 1415mm (55.7") I believe :dunno

I'm basing the information off Yamaha's website. If you go to their website here:

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelspecs/6/0/specs.aspx

Then on the "compare" pull down, select the 2005 R1 and also the 2006 R1. It should show you the specs I am referencing.

The manuals on line which you can download for the 2004 show the specs which match the 2006 bike, not the 2004/2005 bikes. The only other answer is that the specs on the Yamaha website are incorrect.

However, if you key off the compression ratio, it does make sense that the ratio would be lower in 2004/2005 and then bumped up slightly in 2006 - or at least it seems like it would make sense.

When I have a minute, I'll see if I can cross-reference the publication numbers in the PDF files with Yamaha or the dealer or something.

As it stands right now, I have merged all the 2004-2006 information into a single zip file and renamed the service manual to 2006 (from 2004/2005) to match what I see on Yamaha's website with regard to the 2006 vs 2004/5 specs.

That's the latest info I have to go on right now.

Strange isn't it and I'd never heard of a tank size/capacity difference.
I can see the seat height difference though as that could be created by the additional swingarm length.
